Operation Holiday Cheer

Burdick Kia is teaming up with 105.9 The Big Talker to give some needy families here in Central New York a little HOLIDAY CHEER this season! These families need a little extra help this year, so read about them below and click on their WalMart.com "Wish List" to buy them something to put under the tree. Family #1:
WALMART WISH LIST
A single mom of two children, ages 11 and 8, she works 60 plus hours a week, goes to school part time and receives no financial help for her girls. She is struggling even more this year. Please help her give her girls a good Christmas!
Family #2:
WALMART WISH LIST
This couple has two girls, ages 15 and 12. A few years ago, the father lost his job of 13 years. They are in a financial hole now – the husband works for eleven dollars an hour and she has still not been able to get a job. She writes “my girls have come to realize that the holidays are not going to be the same anymore. We get our food from food pantries now and are three and a half months behind on our rent. Please help our daughters have a nice Christmas in spite of that.”

WALMART WISH LIST
This mother has four kids of her own and nine years ago, adopted three sisters whose parents abandoned them. The kids range in ages from 8 months to 17. She is now disabled and her husband works in a local factory. Money is very tight, yet they continue to provide love and support to all of their children.

This couple works very hard to raise their four kids, ages, 15, 14, 12 and 8. Each volunteers at their local church, school and with scouts. It would be great to see them have an easier holiday season and be able to enjoy more and worry less.

This woman and her daughter took in three grandchildren from Florida, ages nine and twins who are six. The kids were abused. They have worked very hard to give them a stable environment. There are five people in a two bedroom apartment. Please give them holiday cheer!

This family was nominated by one of the three children, ages 20, 18 and 8. He writes, “my father lost his job in April, he recently stopping receiving his unemployment and had a heart attack. As a result of my dad’s termination, my mother has had to work extra hard and my father is very depressed. I’d like nothing more for my parents to have a nice Christmas and keep themselves healthy and happy.”

This couple has six children, ages 18, 15, 13, 12, 3 and 2. The mother left her career to care for her three year old son after his cancer diagnosis. The father’s business has been slow and stressful and they’ve been wondering where the money will come from to feed all eight of them.

This family, back on May 4th of this year, had a house fire and since then have been struggling to get by. They have gotten into a new home, but there are still not many smiles coming from the children, ages 9, 12, 13 and 15. Please help bring the smiles back to the kids after a very stressful year!

A single mom with three kids, ages 10, 8 and 7 was just recently left by her husband. She is working 40 hours a week to provide for her children and is just squeaking by. “I would really like to see her be able to have some stress taken from her plate and the children be able to have something for Christmas”, says the person who nominated her.

This is a wonderful refugee family from Iraq that arrived here two years ago. They have three children: ages 8, 6 and 4. The father had a job when they arrived but has since been laid off. He helps out at their local church as much as he can. They ask for nothing and give everything!

This family has three children, ages 18, 15 and 5. The youngest was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which limits everything he does. In order for him to receive all of the treatments that he needs, the entire family cuts back on all of their “wants”. He is scheduled for surgery in February without the insurance approval at this point, which will stretch them even further. Please help this wonderful family!

This single mom is raising two boys on her own, ages 7 and 18 months. There is no child support from the father. She works, but after paying for day care, gas, food and basic necessities, there will be little under her tree for her boys this year.

WALMART WISH LIST
This past year, this family lost their baby girl in a tragic family accident. They have three boys, ages 3, 4 and 8. Dad lost his job last year and Mom works a lot of overtime. They are struggling to keep their family home and have finally just collected enough money for their baby girl’s headstone. The nomination reads: “They are very private and too proud to ask for help, but I can’t think of a more deserving family.”

This family has four children, ages 13, 4, 2 and 1. They were nominated by a grandparent who writes, “They lost their home this year and had to move in with me. My son-in-law lost his job in September because their car broke down and he had no way to get there. My grandchildren have a lot of health problems, which have also drained them financially. My son-in-law is in school and is working so hard to try to get them out of this situation. Please help them after their very rough year!”

This family was nominated by one of the kids, ages 12, 6 and 5. The oldest one writes, “My parents have both been out of work more than a year and they struggle paying bills and I want us to have a stress free holiday. My brothers still believe in the miracles that Santa can bring. I want it to be still magical for them, and I want my parents to be happy.”

This woman worked full time for six years and part time for the past three to help give her two kids, ages 5 and 8, everything she could. Her full time hours were recently cut, only after giving up the part time job because she thought she could afford it. The nomination letter reads, “I overheard her sobbing in the restroom at work about having no money for her children at Christmas.”

This single mom’s job has gone from full time to part time, and has had to move recently to a smaller apartment. She is barely meeting ever day living requirements and worries that she won’t be able to afford much for the kids, ages 6 and 10, this year for Christmas.
